Travelers car insurance, as Travelers describes it
Pet, travel and flood each carry a plain statement that Travelers does not underwrite them — and its telematics can raise a premium too.

What Travelers publishes about itself
Travelers is a stock company under a Minnesota-incorporated holding company listed on the New York Stock Exchange, and its own annual report describes personal insurance as distributed primarily through thousands of independent agents and brokers, with a direct channel alongside. Two things it publishes are worth reading closely: an explicit statement on three products that Travelers does not underwrite them, and an equally explicit statement that its telematics program can raise a premium.
What is settled, and what is not
Everything on the left is stated by Travelers. Everything on the right is a question their published material does not answer — which makes it a question worth asking on the phone.
They state this
Primarily independent agents, plus direct
Its annual report says personal insurance products are marketed and distributed primarily through thousands of independent agents and brokers throughout the United States, and that it also markets directly to consumers through direct mail, digital marketing, affinity partners and its own wholly owned agency.
It says which products are not its own
Pet insurance is not underwritten by Travelers or its affiliates. Neither is travel insurance. Neither is flood. All three sentences are on its own product pages, in that form, and the business is routed through its agency affiliate InsuraMatch, which is compensated on what you buy.
IntelliDrive can raise a premium
Travelers states it twice on the same page: riskier driving habits may result in a higher premium, and riskier driving behaviors may result in a higher premium depending on program and state. It also states individual driving data is used to rate policies.
The repair guarantee lasts as long as you own the car
Travelers states it stands behind each shop’s repair guarantee for as long as you own the vehicle — and, in the same breath, that customers are under no obligation to use a network shop and that the network is not available in every state.
It publishes which discounts are unavailable where
Early quote, EFT, new car, safe driver, continuous insurance, paid in full, good payer, home ownership and multicar are not available in California; early quote, safe driver and good payer are not available in New York; good payer is not available in Maryland or Washington.
They do not
It does not claim all fifty states
Its annual report says principal markets for personal insurance are spread throughout the contiguous United States. That is a narrower statement than fifty states and DC, and Travelers does not make the wider one — so neither do we.
No founding year on an about page
The company history pages do not resolve, and the marketing copy says only 170-plus years. The 1853 date above comes from its own annual report, which describes it as one of the oldest insurance organizations in the United States dating back to 1853.
No discount percentages at all
Travelers names a dozen auto discounts and publishes a figure for none of them. What any one is worth is a filing question in your state.
Which IntelliDrive program applies to you
There are two — IntelliDrive and IntelliDrive 365 — each offered in a different set of states, and an embedded video on the same page carries an older, conflicting list. Ask which one is available where you live and what it does to a renewal.
Discounts Travelers names
These are the credits Travelers lists on its own site. Which of them you qualify for, what each is worth, and whether it is already on a policy you hold are all questions for an agent — none of them is published, because none of them is the same for two people.

Travelers questions
Can IntelliDrive raise my Travelers rate?
Travelers says it can, and says it twice on the same page: riskier driving habits may result in a higher premium, and riskier driving behaviors may result in a higher premium depending on program and state. It also states individual driving data is used to rate policies. There are two versions of the program in different states — worth asking which applies to you.
Does Travelers underwrite its pet, travel and flood insurance?
No, and it says so on each page in plain words. Pet is referred to the ASPCA Pet Health Insurance program, travel to Travel Insured International, and flood to the Neptune Flood program. All three are placed through Travelers’ agency affiliate InsuraMatch, which is compensated based on the policy you buy. Very few carriers disclose this as directly.
Does Travelers write in all fifty states?
It does not say so. Its own annual report describes principal markets for personal insurance as spread throughout the contiguous United States — which is a deliberately narrower statement than fifty states and DC. We report it as written rather than rounding it up.
Do I have to use a Travelers repair shop?
No. Travelers states customers have the right to choose where their vehicle is appraised, depending on state, and repaired, and are under no obligation to use a network facility. If you do use its MyTravelers Repair Network, it states it stands behind each shop’s guarantee for as long as you own the vehicle. The network is not available in every state.
Can this site get me a Travelers quote?
No. InsuranceXR is not an insurance agency and does not quote any company. Travelers sells through more than one channel, so whether a given agent can quote it depends on their own appointments. The agent who answers can tell you which companies they represent; we cannot promise Travelers is one of them.

Find out who will actually write you
Whether Travelers — or anyone else — will write your profile, and at what price, is underwriting. No website can answer it. A licensed agent can, on a call that costs nothing.
