What Allstate publishes about itself
Allstate is a stock company under a publicly traded Delaware holding company — not a mutual — and it reaches customers four different ways at once: about 27,400 exclusive agents, roughly 58,700 independent agent locations, contact centers, and its own website. Its auto page states plainly that how you buy is one of the factors in what the policy costs. Sixteen underwriting companies sit behind the brand, including Esurance and, in Florida, Castle Key. Life insurance sold through Allstate is not Allstate's product at all.

Allstate states that many factors go into the cost of a policy, including how you purchase it: online, through a call center, or with an agent. If you have priced only one of those, you have priced one of four.
Its agents are exclusive, and not employees
Allstate states that its agents are not franchisees but exclusive agent independent contractors who are not employed by Allstate. Exclusive means they sell Allstate. It also distributes through roughly 58,700 independent agent locations, which do not.
It writes in every state and DC
Allstate states in its own annual report to the SEC that it primarily operates in the United States — all 50 states and the District of Columbia — and Canada. Individual products roll out more slowly than that; its newer auto and homeowners products were in 43 and 31 states at the end of 2025.
The repair network carries a workmanship guarantee
Allstate states its Good Hands Repair Network has over 4,500 shops nationwide and that repairs at an in-network shop carry a nationwide workmanship guarantee for as long as you own the vehicle. It also states you are always free to choose your own shop.
Drivewise costs nothing to add
Allstate states Drivewise is optional and can be added at no cost to any car insurance policy, with crash detection above 25 mph using smartphone sensors.

Drivewise can raise a rate, not only lower one
This is in Allstate’s own disclosure and is worth reading twice: in some states, participating lets Allstate use your driving data for rating, and your rate could increase with high-risk driving. Most telematics programs are one-directional. Ask which way it works in your state before you enroll.
Allstate life insurance is not Allstate’s policy
The footer of its own life insurance page states that life insurance is offered by third-party companies not affiliated with Allstate, each solely responsible for its own products. If you are buying life through an Allstate agent, ask whose policy it is.
Which discounts apply where you live
Allstate publishes no percentages for its auto discounts, and its discounts page changes by ZIP code — so the list you see is not the whole list. Its own wording: speak to a representative for eligibility or availability in your state.
Which of the sixteen companies writes you
Allstate publishes the list — Allstate Fire and Casualty, Allstate Indemnity, Esurance, Castle Key in Florida, Allstate County Mutual and Allstate Texas Lloyd’s in Texas, and others. Which one issues your policy depends on your state and profile.

Can Drivewise increase my Allstate rate?
Allstate says it can. Its own disclosure states that in some states, participation allows Allstate to use your driving data for rating purposes, and that your rate could increase with high-risk driving — while generally safer drivers save. That is different from a discount-only program, so ask how it works in your state before enrolling.
Are Allstate agents employees of Allstate?

Can this site get me a Allstate quote?
