What The Hartford publishes about itself
The Hartford’s personal auto offer is the AARP Auto Insurance Program, and it states it is the only auto insurance endorsed by AARP. Two of its own disclosures matter more than anything else on the page. First, AARP membership is required for program eligibility in most states — its words, and the exceptions are not published. Second, it does not write new business in all areas, and names California and Florida. AARP is not an insurer; The Hartford states it pays AARP royalty fees for the use of its intellectual property.

Hartford Fire Insurance Company and affiliates generally, but Hartford Accident and Indemnity in Texas, Hartford Insurance Company of the Southeast in Arizona, Michigan and Minnesota, Hartford Underwriters in California, Hartford Casualty in Washington, Trumbull in Massachusetts, and Nutmeg and Twin City in Pennsylvania.
It publishes real discount figures
Among them: 8% for starting a quote online, up to 10% for on-time payment, 5% for defensive driving, up to 10% for five years claim-free, and for its TrueLane telematics up to 15% for participating with a renewal discount of up to 40%.

The Hartford says "most states" and leaves it there. If you are not an AARP member and would rather not become one, that is the first question for the call.
Where it is not writing new business
Its own wording is that it does not write new business in all areas, "including the states of CA and FL" — including, not limited to. The full list is not published, and a state selector on the site still shows all fifty plus DC.
When it was founded
Not published. Its about page does not resolve, and the site says only that it has been serving customers for more than 200 years. Other sites will give you a year; The Hartford does not, so neither do we.

In most states, yes — that is The Hartford’s own wording: AARP membership is required for program eligibility in most states. It does not name the exceptions. It also offers to help you join, saying it can sign you up in minutes. AARP itself is not the insurer; The Hartford states this is a paid endorsement and that it pays AARP royalty fees.
Is The Hartford writing new auto policies in California or Florida?
Its own disclosure says it does not write new business in all areas, including the states of California and Florida. Note the word including — the sentence is not presented as an exhaustive list, and no fuller list is published. Its state selector still shows all fifty states and DC, which is why the disclosure is the thing to read.
How old is The Hartford?
It does not publish a founding year anywhere we could reach — its about page does not resolve, and the site says only that it has been proudly serving customers for over 200 years. We would rather tell you we could not confirm the year than repeat one from somewhere else.
What does TrueLane do to my rate?
The Hartford publishes up to 15% just for participating and a renewal discount of up to 40% for safe driving. It does not publish whether the program can move a rate the other way, which is the question worth asking — several carriers state plainly that theirs can.
Can this site get me a The Hartford quote?
