What Mercury publishes about itself
Mercury General Corporation is a California corporation listed on the New York Stock Exchange, writing personal auto through twelve insurance subsidiaries in eleven states — principally California, in its own annual report’s words. It sells through a network of local independent agents, about 8,500 of them, alongside an online quote and a phone line. The footprint is short, published, and identical in two places on its site.

A stock company with twelve insurance subsidiaries
Mercury publishes its subsidiaries by state of incorporation — Mercury Casualty, Mercury Insurance Company, American Mercury, Mercury County Mutual in Texas and others. Which one writes you depends on your state.
They do not
Its own site publishes two founding years
The body of its about page says "since our formation in 1961"; the hero on the same page says "trusted by drivers since 1962". We use 1961 because it is attached to the formation statement, and mention the discrepancy because it is theirs, not ours.
No discount percentages
Mercury names five auto discounts and publishes a figure for none of them. What each is worth in your state is a question for the agent.
Which lines it does not underwrite
Not published. Mercury lists auto, home, condo, renters, landlord, umbrella, mechanical protection and business products, and does not publish a "not underwritten by us" disclosure of the kind some carriers here do.

How much are Mercury’s discounts worth?
Mercury does not say. It names five — multi-policy, multi-vehicle, good driver, good grades and anti-theft — and publishes no percentage for any of them. That is not unusual; what a discount is worth depends on your state filing and your profile, which is why it is an agent question rather than a website one.
Can this site get me a Mercury quote?
